So originally, this week’s topic was going to be
about Valentime’s π(π€£) Day and how it changed over the years. Then this winter storm hit the Southern region
and my inspiration changed lol. Snow
Days growing up were awesome. It is the
only days I would wake up early and actually turn the news on; only to see if
my school were closed lol. Most times, it
was not π. Oh, but the times we were out, and it snowed (like this
week’s events), it was crazy fun. One thing, we never had the proper winter
clothes lol. I remember using socks as
gloves π€£. No school or
homework since we did not have all the technological advances students have
these days. Most importantly it was a vacation day that was not planned. Fast forward to adulthood π, and
snow days just do not feel the same lol.
First off, the job does not care what is going on outside❄⛆π¬, you
better report to work lol. Secondly, why once you get older you start thinking
and being responsible As a kid, I never cared about storing food,
flashlights/candles, or having power. However, Adult Trellie worries about all of
that. It could be because I also work in
the power field and do not want to do emergency work lol. Another thing, Young Trell could stay out all
day in the cold days. Nowadays, I have to
go out in waves. Need to go back inside to warm up these bones lol. Snows days used
to be epic, now they suck lol; I HATE IT HERE!!

We Be Clubbin': Going out in the 30's vs. College Days
I can recall growing up and watching my older
siblings and cousins getting ready for the nighttime activities. I would sit
around and tell myself, “I cannot wait until I am old enough to go out!” One of
my favorite movies as a child was “A Night at the Roxbury" only because of
the club scene when the main characters were jamming πΆπΆlol. Of course, I eventually
got older and was able to hit the club scenes.
At first it was awesome lol. I
would walk around and dance all night. See friends and joke around with
them. We would partake in “liquid
consumption” π and just vibe all night until they kicked us out lol. I did
this routine for years (Ages 18-26) and this was probably multiple times a week
lol. Then something happened!! At around
age 27, I got tired of standing up lol.
The music started sounding “blah” and the club scene was not really my
thing anymore lol. I started enjoying
bars or lounges more. The people I once
considered “old” were looking more relatable π€¦ lol. Just like
everything else in life, we grow and begin to evolve. I started noticing that the club scene was
getting expensive and became more of a burden lol. Getting dressed, paying to get in, and over
charged for “liquid consumption” ππ just did not sit well with me anymore
lol. I found that I much rather desired
a chill vibe, a seat, and some food lol. Now do not get me wrong, I still love
the club scene at times but the 33-year-old me cannot hang multiple days a week
like I used to. Also,
I have gone from “we have to get there before 11” to “let us just get a section”
lol. Of course, having a professional job
now does help in that scenario lol.
P.S: I still dance but I do it in spurts these days lol. See gif above for my moves π€£.

What About Me?
"Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave" - Maya Angelou
During Black History month growing up, I could
not wait to hear stories about these wonderful individuals: Martin Luther King
Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver, Mary McLeod Bethune,
Shirley Chisholm, and many many others.
Black History Month has always felt like a great celebration for my culture and
me. It was the one time I felt relatable
in the school system because for one month, the spotlight was on our ancestry
and what they contributed to the world. Even my parents, made it a point to
make sure I was aware of the past and how it shaped our present. I used to enjoy talking with my Grandma about
her youth and things she encountered or overcame. However, the older I got the
more I noticed how repetitive the month got in school. We went over the same people every year and
did not really learn much differently. Also, I noticed that many stories were
omitted from the books. Why didn’t we every
learn about the Tulsa Massacres? Why wasn’t
Katherine Johnson (Hidden Figures) mentioned?
Do you know how awesome it would have been for young black females to
see her and know that they could be working for NASA too one day. I just imagine that is how kids feel today
looking up to figures like Barack & Michelle Obama. Why do we only get one month? I know it is an improvement over the week we
originally got, but why not year around like everything else. As much as I love
our history, I want to make sure we maintain it and pass it on to the generations
to come. I cannot say that I hate it here this week; however, I do see we can improve on some things.
P.S: This title may or may not have been inspired by an old Boosie song lol. I am educated and ratchet all in one lol.
