Mansion, Apartment, Shack, or House...

Who remembers playing “M.A.S.H” growing up?  I can recall being excited whenever I landed on the M for Mansion or H for House.  Childhood was amazing because it took a piece of paper and game of chance for us to believe we had an actual home lol.  Our imaginations growing up were awesome; too bad adulthood had to come along and ruin it πŸ™„ lol.  Owning a home is not as simple as playing a game of chance though.  Homeowning involves time, money, and more importantly good credit.  As a kid, we have all these expectations for our homes and not once do we think of costs. As adults, we still have expectations, but we must prioritize them based on a budget or needs vs. wants lol.  Getting the home is the easy part when you think about all the other things that have to be done: Cleaning (so ghetto), paying mortgage/insurances (so ghetto), upkeep (ghetto), and property taxes (sooo ghetto) to name a few. Homeowning does have its benefits though; you get to have something that is yours and not renting like an apartment.  I always wanted to throw somebody out of my place like Martin lol. “Get to Steppin!” Also, you get to throw amazing events at your place lol.  I cannot wait to have a housewarming or random weekend game night.  This week, I am hating on the process but the actual thought of being a “Homeowner”, I am excited for!!!

Kind of Happy Birthday lol..

Before I start my rant, I want to say I think was born in the wrong generation (not really because 80’s babies are the best) lol.  Have you seen an 8 years old’s birthday party in 2019 (2020 is ghetto lol)?  Let me just say it is way more money πŸ’° spent these days. I could not even get a snack during the grocery shopping runs when growing up and they are getting full game trucks 🚚 rented out for their special days lol. Now on with the show; birthdays growing up were awesome!  I had my crew with me, got some good cake, great gifts (second only to Christmas) and a rather good theme (mainly power rangers or ninja turtles).  You never had to do anything, and everything was setup perfectly for you lol.  Skating parties were the premium packages lol.  Now that I am older, I know three things: 1) birthdays are not as fun as my childhood; 2) women birthdays seem to elevate and men birthdays are very minimal πŸ˜’; and 3) birthdays are expensive.  Your outlook on birthdays change when you are older too. Young Trellie cherished the gifts & Wise Trellie (yes that's my name lol) cherishes the people and time.  With all that is going on in the world these days, another year around is a blessing and I never take it for granted.  So, to sum it up, birthdays suck growing up but only for the fellas lol. Women continue to have your extravagant events and get your man a cake for his birthdays lol. On behalf of all the males, I will say it for us “I Hate it Here!!”

P.S: I want to know, what was your favorite bday theme growing up?

Picking a College!!

One thing that took a big reality check was my college choice growing up!  When you are young, you do not think about the important stuff like tuition, boarding fees, location, degrees offered, etc.; all I knew was that University of North Carolina (UNC)  was my only choice and I was ready to be a part of Tar Heel Nation. As time went by, I started to learn things about colleges and myself.  First off, I learned that science & math where my niches and I wanted to make sure my career path followed suit.  Another thing, I found out about was “Out of State Fees” lol.  That alone help me realized that home is where the heart is kmsl. However, it was not until I saw “A Different World” that my love for our culture took over. I have always loved my Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU’s) though; my family is deep in Grambling and I have always loved the band at Southern University!  As the years passed, my choice was made clear: Jaguar Nation was the one for me. One thing that movies, television shows, and childhood did not show was that college is hard work lol.  I only paid attention to the parties, football games, & probates.  No one ever mentioned that classes, projects, and learning was involved lol.  I do not hate it here, but it is not my favorite either lol.

I'm Getting Too Old For This...

I'M GETTING TOO OLD FOR THIS SHH.. I remember watching Lethal Weapon with Red (moms) and would laugh every time Murtaugh mumbled those infamous words. If only I knew then to keep living and you would come to understand his pain.  One thing that is constantly changing is time itself.  With that constant change comes the aging lol.  I can remember looking back now and looking at my oldest brother thinking “geez he’s old” lol.  Of course, now that I am older, I know that lil Trellie did not know what he was talking about.  Aging is really nothing you see coming lol.  One day you are young and full of energy and next thing you know it is High School graduation and you are deciding what to do with your lifeπŸ€”.  From there, time really flies! One thing for sure the older you get the more things change.  For example, as a child I would jump right out of the bed in the mornings when the alarm went off and nowadays there is "lay time" I must do before actually moving 🀣. I do not know why but knees take a dramatic dip whenever you hit 30 too.  There really needs to be a manual for aging because it is really a mess.  Certain foods that you ate all the time suddenly give your stomach fits lol.  I could go on and all but, in the end, just know that Murtaugh was right lol; we are getting too old for this stuff!

P.S: What's one thing aging has made you change?

Who Wants Superpowers?

First off, Happy New Year to everyone!  I know it has been a while! Did you miss me? No, okay then πŸ™‚ lol.  Secondly, I need to give thanks...
