I Am Not My Parents, Oh Wait Yes I Am lol..

As a kid the worst thing you can say is “I will never be my parents”.  You have just jinxed yourself for life lol.  If 8-year-old Trellie knew then what he knows now, I would have just shut up.  My parents had strict roles, mom was the friend and pop the stern one.  Moms was the one I could joke with and charm into things.  My father was rugged and tough lol.  He made sure we worked hard, and he kept order.  To me he was mean, and I was not going to be like that when I grew up.  What I didn’t understand then was he was working tired hours daily and providing for the family.  He didn’t have time for jokes or games.  Also, he had a heart of gold!!  Today at 32 years old, I have picked up that similar stern personality, somewhat, lol.  My wife always asks me, "why do I always mug people?" 😕.  I apparently also got his heart of gold too, because come girl scout cookies time; my house is filled with contraband 🤣.  The best thing about turning into your parents is that you are a special blend of both individuals.  I picked up Big Red’s (mom) funny personality and pop’s work ethic.  Both personalities have molded me into the gentlemen that is typing this blog.  So, younger generations, if you reading this do not, I repeat DO NOT, jinx yourself lol. Whether you want to or not we all turn into some form or our parents and honestly that is not all bad!!

House Cleaning

Every parent has a different routine. Some play R&B/Motown music, some open all the blinds, and some just setup all the cleaning supplies.  One thing is for sure, there is a tell that lets you know it is “Clean Up Day” lol.  I always dreaded this day when I was younger lol.  It only got worse as I grew up because my siblings left home leaving me all alone 😢.  This kid would hide, fake sick, etc. to get out of cleaning.  None of these tricks worked lol; Red (mom) didn’t play around.  One thing Young Trellie didn’t appreciate though, you only have to clean/do a few items.  Later in life, you have to clean the entire house or pay someone (I refuse to do). Sometimes I look around and just think I should just let the dust pile up; however, that just makes the cleaning even tougher whenever I decide to do it smh.  All grown up and I hate it here!!

P.S. - Any cleaning services you guys recommend let me know.  I do not want to clean anymore 😑😑.

Unexpected Experiences

Before my typical rant post, I wanted to start this one off by telling my families allum (all of them) I love them.  That includes everyone under the sun from my siblings to my 13th removed cousins lol.  Even Faith, but yall better watch your man when she’s around kmsl (just jokes; “Soul Food” reference). Cannot wait to link up with each of you guys and just have some great times.

Now on with the show. One thing that childhood or adulthood never really prepares you for is an unexpected experience like death or funeral.  As a child, I never really understood what was happening and just knew people around me were sad.  I had close friends & relatives who lost someone close at a young age and neither of us really knew how to handle that situation.  Well, here I am an adult and still really face the same situations.  I know death is a part of life; however, it still bothers me.  The main difference nowadays is that I must remain strong for the generation behind me just like the one before me did.  It is really a hard pill to swallow because you always feel like that person had more time.  The best thing you can do is remember the memories of that individual and keep their legacy going.  For example, my Grandpa Sam, I love him to death, but he was the pettiest man alive lol.  That trait is one I have picked up on and mastered lol.  Ooowee I got some stuff to tell you PaPa!!!   I think it’s a tie this topic: Adulthood & Childhood both sucked!!

P.S. - Not all unexpected experiences are bad.  I like finding money on the ground lol.  Blessings are unexpected too!!

You've Got Mail!

As a youngster, I felt like I was the man whenever I was able to go to the mailbox for my parents.  And do not let my name actually be on something, oh you can call me Richie Rich that day.  Even though I only really got mail like twice a year (birthday & maybe Christmas) those were the days.  Nowadays, I have a mailbox that I refuse to go to.  It is either filled with junk mail, politicians, bills (the devil lol), or crap I would never buy.  Let’s not forget about the previous tenants who refuse to pay their debt or update their address on the profile.  Thanks a lot, Mr. & Mrs. Whoever!!! RETURN TO SENDER!!!  Before you ask, “what about Amazon?”, that is delivered to my front door so no need for a mailbox.  I think I have a package at the door right now lol!!  Adulthood, zero stars!!

Bonus: Who still remembers the mail song on Blue's Clues?  I'm Guilty lol...

Mo' Money, Mo' Problems

Growing up my supervision semi-spoiled me lol; however, they made sure I knew how to work hard by doing chores.  They paid a brother way below minimum wage though.  I was sweating bricks for 5 or 10 dollars.  However, that was all tax free and IRS didn’t come knocking on April 15th. I remember back in the day; I would always say “I cannot wait to work”.  Why did I think work would be so awesome? Maybe it was because I wasn’t all for school at the time lol.  I guess I thought I would make my own schedule/money and not have to wake up early.  Yeah, that ended great for me lol.  These days you think you're getting paid, then your check comes, and boom Uncle Sam is getting rich off of you.  Let’s not even talk about all the things your check has to cover: rent/mortgage, food, transportation, looking good (my weakness is shopping), motha-freaking insurances, (health, car, home, life, you name it lol) & whatever else is waiting with their hand stuck out.  Also, work becomes your home as an adult because you essentially spend more time at work and with your coworkers then your actual family.  Basically, in grown up land, work is your norm and being home is a privilege.  Help me make sense of this mess!!!  I bet you wish you were back in school now huh!  I know I do lol!!  If you are keeping score, that is 3 for Adulthood & 0 for childhood lol.

Can You Pay My Bills?

BILLS are the number one unpleasantry of being a "grown up”.  When I was under the care of my parents, whatever I wanted (to some extent) I could get.  Now there may have been some requirements, but it was usually delivered. NOT IN ADULTHOOD BUDDY!!  Want to get your own place? Gotta Pay Rent!  Want to have a car? Gotta Pay Insurance, Gas, & Car Note!  Want to eat?  Gotta Pay for Groceries!  Want to have fun?  Gotta Pay for Whatever! You see the trend here? You want to do something, you must pay some type of bill to complete it smh!!!  Now I understand Destiny Child's issues in their song “Bills, Bills, Bills”, if you can’t pay for something; why are you here lol.  I truly comprehend now when my parents used to tell me “Money Doesn’t Grown on Trees”.  BILLS definitely do though haha!  I’m sick of bills!!

         Adulthood – 1 and Childhood – 0

Intro

As a child, I couldn’t wait to “grow up”.  My imaginations gave me all these ideas of how great being an adult would be.  BOY WAS I WRONG LOL!!!  Here’s a blog about myself explaining things that I thought were cool as a kid and suck now that I am an adult.  Mary, better known as Big Red, & Wesley (parents) if you are reading this, please let me move back home lol.

A little bit about myself.  My name is Montrell and I am the baby boy of a total of 5 children.  I say baby boy, but my siblings are more like my second parents due to our age gaps.  I was born and raised in the great city of Monroe, Louisiana and currently residing in Houston, Texas since 2011.  I am a bit country, a bit city, and a lot of crazy lol.  I am an alumnus of Southern University and A&M College with a BS in Electrical Engineering.  By day, I am working hard for the utility company; at night I am catching up on all my TV shows lol.  The idea of this kind of came to me randomly and I started jotting down things here and there.  After discussing with wifey & friends, the idea of a blog came together.  So, I hope you enjoy my brief rants lol.  Feel free to share, comment, & even send topics.

P.S. - I don’t really hate adulthood, but it does suck at times lol!!!

Who Wants Superpowers?

First off, Happy New Year to everyone!  I know it has been a while! Did you miss me? No, okay then 🙂 lol.  Secondly, I need to give thanks...
