The Real World: What They Don't Tell You Once You Get the Degree!

My parents always told me go to college, get a degree, and get a job. Simple as 1, 2, and 3 right?  That was always my thinking growing up.  I would work hard in school (somewhat lol), go to college, and all these opportunities would be waiting for me.  Well, 2 out of 3 is not bad lol.  I did go to college (Thee Southern University and A&M CollegeπŸ’™πŸ’›).  I did get my degree (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering). However, I did not get that job πŸ˜•, not right away at least lol.  Everyone thinks that a degree equals stability, but in actuality, it really does not in the real world 🀷. What they do not tell you is? Once you get that degree you could be unemployed for some time.  You may have to work out of your field until something becomes available.  What if it is a depression, recession, or pandemic (dang 2020 lol)? Adulthood really pulls the blinds back on the real world!  Even in little league sports, there was a winner and runner-up.  Unfortunately, in adulthood there is only the winner.  The runner-up typically gets the same “we went with someone else” email as all the other candidates lol. Now I am not bagging on getting a degree because it does help and give you an edge in the job market, but do not equate it to necessarily guaranteeing a job. Whenever I talk to people, I try to emphasize that you should get a degree into something you love and not base it on money.  Love will make it a lot easier when the rough times come lol.  Adulthood sucks but now it sucks with a diploma (just kidding) πŸ˜…πŸ˜…lol!!

Food, Football, & Family!!!

My childhood memories and adulthood memories for Thanksgiving are not that much different.  There were football games, Bayou Classic weekend, family, & food.  Nowadays, there are football games, Bayou Classic weekend, family, DRINKS, and food lol.  The main difference, however, is the fact that our parents are not the ones doing everything lol.  I have been able to get away without hosting Thanksgiving due to not being in a home lol.  I do not know how much longer I can get away with that excuse lol.  Thanksgiving during childhood, we did not have anything to do but show up and eat lol.  Every now and then, I would get a designated chore to complete.  That simple task was nothing compared to prepping, hosting, cleaning, and lodging for family/friend guests. I have been recently discussing Thanksgiving plans with my cousins and it is weird hearing them prepare the meals instead of my aunts.  Do not get me wrong, all my cousins can throw down lol.  It is simply weird to know that we control everything lol. It is like an imaginary baton has been passed to us and we did not ask for it lol, well at least I did not 🀷. In adulthood, I feel that Thanksgiving is rushed too.  Mainly because day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday which officially begins Christmas season lol. The sales going on at different stores tend to take away from Thanksgiving itself.

I HATE IT HERE, BUT HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Gone in 60 Seconds!!

I can recall collecting Hot Wheels πŸš— when I was younger; I would have like ten (10) set aside that I would get once I got older. Well here I am older (Young 32, I mean lol), and I have a grand total of ONE (1) car lol.  Also, the one I do have is nothing like the cars Young Trellie would collect. When I was young, I must have thought cars were cheap or something because what in the world I am going to do with ten of them lol. Now do not get me wrong, I have plans of getting (2) more vehicles: Sierra Denali & 1990s Chevy Impala SS; however, I am not in any hurry lol. A few things flawed my amazing car collection.  First thing is MONEY πŸ’°πŸ’°!! I would need for the funds in my bank account to heavily increase lol.  Number two is space; with all these cars, I would have to keep them somewhere and a garage would be preferred.  Last but more importantly, maintenance & renewals! I do not believe as a child I fully grasped everything that went into vehicles.  Maintenance and renewals are the most essential.  Oil changes, tires, inspection stickers, gas, spark plugs, and the list goes on & on πŸ˜’πŸ˜‚ really make owning a car rough.  Also, is it just me or does the warning lights only come on the car either after you have paid it off or randomly had some extra money lol. I Hate It Here lol!! If I could go back in time, I would snatch a few of those toy cars away from myself lol.  Why would I even build my hopes up like that? Smh.

What If I Told You...

If I was in the Matrix, and they told me that the pill could take me back to childhood; I will eat the entire bottle lol!!!

Growing up I was usually the youngest, so I got nicknames like: Baby Bro, Lil Trell, Pooh, etc.; however, it never bothered me because I always knew I would grow up and things would change lol.  News Flash, things do not really change lol.  I mean I did get older, but the ones over me got older too lol.  In my childhood thinking, my older siblings would max out at like 30 (I know old right lol) and I will catch up to them. Now that I am older, I noticed that it does not really work out that way lol.  No matter how old I get, the hierarchy of my siblings will stay the same.  I will always be the baby boy and that is fact lol.  However, I do get to hang out more with my siblings and get in on adult conversations.  It turns out I am a lot like all of them individually combined into one lol.  Basically, my parents spread out the babysitting duties lol; therefore, I picked up traits from them all lol.  “Baby bro” always wanted to get their attention and "Adulthood Trellie" just wants to earn their respect!  I feel like being the youngest is not bad because you get to observe things and figure out your own path.  I considered myself having the cheat codes to life and trying to see which code works best for me.  Neither worked lol; I had to go my own path!  Some things never change, but it is okay because consistency is key in surviving this thing called “Adulthood”. By the way, I still have all my childhood nicknames lol.  I consider it my special bond with all my family members. Did I mention that I hate it here lol?

Who Wants Superpowers?

First off, Happy New Year to everyone!  I know it has been a while! Did you miss me? No, okay then πŸ™‚ lol.  Secondly, I need to give thanks...
