Halloween 👻 growing up was an adventure! I got to dress up as my favorite Power Ranger
or Ninja Turtle, meet up with friends to plan the night, and All You Can Eat
Candy!!! Usually in elementary school we typically had a Halloween carnival and
every classmate brought candy to share with the class. There are levels to Halloween
candy too lol. You have the good stuff,
the okay stuff, and the stuff you try to give away lol. Now that I am grown,
Halloween is still an adventure but in different ways lol. First off, the candy
prices are outrageous, now I understand when I got the “okay stuff” as a kid
lol. The costumes have not changed much
though. The ladies just learned how to
sexy up their outfits lol. The guys still wait to the last minute and more than
likely does something similar to the year before lol. We still have our
grown-up carnivals; however, they are much more expensive to attend lol. One thing I do not miss from childhood is
“bobbing for apples”. I did not like it
then and for sure do not like it now lol.
I did enjoy going from house to house getting the candy and checking out
the decorations. Hopefully, one day I
can be the spooky decorated house with the “good stuff” candy lol. Also, who does not love the Halloween movies?
Hocus Pocus, The Adams Family, Bettlejuice, Halloweentown, and the list goes
on!!!

Stepping Up to the Plate!!
I always hear people say: “The family doesn’t
get together anymore.” In actuality, that is a true statement; however, it is
our own fault because we are not continuing the traditions laid out before us. As a child growing up, my generation (millennials)
really did not have to do much. We were the
younger group; therefore, no responsibility was on us lol. Our hardest task was making sure we included "ma'am" or " sir" after yes and no when talking to someone older lol. All the
family events were fun for us because all we had to do was show up and play
all day lol. Even when we got hungry,
someone older typically fixed our plates to avoid any messes. Let me tell you, that is not the case anymore
these days lol. Now that we are older,
we have real responsibilities for events. Mine is usually setup and cleanup
crew 😒 lol. That means I must show up
earlier and leave later lol. I HATE IT
HERE!! We have to fix our own plates now
and typically after everyone else has eaten lol. Due to respect, we let our elders go first
and then the children must eat second smh; here we are getting the short end of
the stick lol. It sucks but it is the
rite of passage. If we want to continue
the events our parents and grandparents did, then it is up to the millennials to
step up to the plate. After all, we are not
the younger generation anymore lol. We,
The Millennials, are in our 20’s or 30’s now, so it is time we started taking
charge of things!!! I too am guilty of sitting back but I will make a greater
effort to get involved 🙄. We
have a generation watching so let us make it count. I will hate it and it will be challenging 😅 but we can get it done!!

Hell's Kitchen!!
Have you ever spent hours on something for it to
be over in minutes? Before your mind
goes to the gutter, I am talking about preparing or cooking meals lol. You spend hours chopping, dicing, baking,
frying, or boiling just to eat something within minutes smh. Growing up, cooking always looked like an art when
watching Red (mom), Mama Lillian (auntie), T. Rose (auntie) and Grandma do it.
They always made everyone’s favorite dish and always seemed happy doing
it. There were salads, vegetables,
meats, and desserts for as far as my young eyes could see. What Trellie did not know is the time my
favorite ladies put in to prep & prepare the food. I also did not think about the cleaning
afterwards once everyone was full. Yet they always seemed to manage it with a
smile. Now that I am wearing the apron,
on occasions lol, I am seeing their struggles lol. Trying to prepare dishes that require
different things is hard lol. You must
first make sure you have all your ingredients; I never do lol. Always need to
check temperatures to make sure nothing is burning or not cooking properly. You must monitor the times because nothing is
worst then eating cold food. I do love it when my dishes come out great and I
get compliments though. So, I guess all
that sweating in the kitchen was worth it 🙄. I have learned to clean as I finish with a
pot too. It makes washing easier, then
waiting to the very end and cleaning everything at once lol (throw the whole
kitchen away). So, if you are reading
this, I am telling you now to order that Takeout and avoid all this cooking
because I HATE IT (sometimes lol)!!

Civil War!!
Growing up I saw a lot of rivals battle each
other. There were Superman vs. Lex Luthor,
Batman vs. Joker, Power Rangers vs. Rita, Ninja Turtles vs. Shredder, and the
worst of them all Sasha vs. Montrell lol.
You may not have known the last one, but it was one of the worst of them
all lol. Young Trellie was incredibly
competitive and my arch nemesis was my very own cousin, Sasha lol. One thing, I learned from my feud with my
cousin is that it was created by one simple question: “Why can’t you act more
like Sasha?” Hearing that made me feel
like she was better than me and the rivalry was on lol. My cousin and I were
more like Ying & Yang than enemies; however, I was not able to see that
back then lol. We are both 88 babies (I
am older by 6/7 months). We were both
gifted students in school and loved playing sports. In actuality, she always
pushed me to get the best of myself and vice versa. Once again, Young Trellie was too young to
understand lol. We fought, snitched, and
laughed at each other’s downfall all the time.
In fact, it was not until a common enemy came along (her younger sister)
and we got older that we realized the bond we truly had. To this day, Sasha is one of my best
buds. We won our first video game
together (Streets of Rage on Sega), we attended college together (Southern
University), and we celebrated her 30th birthday in epic fashion
together lol. I think this week, I am
hating on childhood because I wasted a lot of time fighting my greatest ally
lol.
